The Health Benefits of Rebounding on a Mini Trampoline

Rebounding, or bouncing on a mini trampoline, is a fun physical activity that often feels more like play than exercise. Yet, it is an integrated, whole-body exercise that is gentle on the muscles, joints, and bones. More than a fun activity, rebounding offers numerous health benefits: improved heart health, stronger muscles, more flexibility and balance, and better health at the cellular level.

Mini Trampoline Games

Tired of the same old routine on your rebounder?  There may be ways you can use a mini trampoline for things other than keeping fit or simply bouncing up and down.  You can get even more out of your tramp with a little creativity.  We’ve put together some examples of games you can play on your mini trampoline so you can continue to have fun with it for years to come.

Mini Trampoline Games For Children

Mini Trampoline GamesTrampoline games are especially effective for little ones.  These can be played both indoors and outside so your little ones can enjoy active play in any weather.  Before trying these games, make sure you have chosen the best mini trampoline for your child.

Counting – For young ones just learning how to count, a great game to reinforce numbers is the counting game.  Simply have your child count (one, two, three, four…) each time they bounce.  Once they have counted as high as possible, they have to stop bouncing.  They can then start again from the beginning.  This may sound like a simple exercise, but it will accomplish a few things.  Number one, it encourages your child to learn how to count higher in order to get more bounces in per round.  Secondly, it helps reinforce the numbers they already know by tying them into a physical activity.  Finally, it gives your child an excuse to exercise!

The Different Sizes of a Mini Trampoline

Mini trampolines come in all shapes and sizes.  By definition, a trampoline is considered “mini” if the jumping pad is less than about 40 inches in diameter.  However, most commercially available mini trampolines are measured from the very edge of the frame, which makes the measurements come in anywhere between 36 and up to 55 inches.

The most common sizes of small trampolines are 40 inches.  If you plan on using the trampoline for fitness purposes, then a smaller surface is more ideal.  This allows your bounce to be tighter and more controlled in order to facilitate better aerobic activity.  A larger surface is more ideal for children’s trampolines, allowing for more give and softer landings for young ones.   A good rule of thumb is that 40 inches and under is a good size for exercising.  40 inches and above is better suited for playing. The following are the best mini trampoline in each of the most common sizes.

Best 36 Inch Mini Trampoline

Stamina 36 inch Folding Trampoline  The smallest size of trampoline widely available are 36 inches.  This size is ideal for people with smaller frames, or those who have a very small space to work out at home.  This variety is also ideal for travelling because they are so small and easy to carry.

The Stamina 36 inch Folding Trampoline is one of the best, and smallest, mini trampolines available.  It is very affordable and sturdy, but is a bit more difficult to assemble than other rebounders.

Best 38 Inch Mini Trampoline

Pure Fun 38-Inch Mini Trampoline A 38 inch trampoline is a comfortable size for exercising.  It’s perfect for aerobic routines in which you will mostly stay in the middle of the pad, like running, bounsing, and twisting.

The best product in this size is the Pure Fun 38-Inch Mini Trampoline.  Pure Fun rebounders are famous for being easy to assemble and this model is no different.  It’s also relatively inexpensive and will last for quite a while if you take care of it properly.

What Kind of Shoes Should I Wear on a Mini Trampoline?

The great thing about a mini trampoline is that it can be used both inside and outside.  This begs the question then: what kind of footwear is most appropriate?  Will certain shoes damage the trampoline pad?  Is it safe to bounce in your bare feet?  What about socks?

We’re here to answer these questions once and for all so that you can maximize your comfort while also being safe.

What You SHOULD Wear on Your Feet

Lets start by going over the footwear we recommend you DO use on your mini trampoline.  Of course, you should first consult any documentation that came with your rebounder for specific instructions from the manufacturer.

Tennis Shoes

ASICS Men's GEL-Strike 2 Running Shoe,White/Navy/Gold,8 D USA pair of tennis, running, or cross training shoes are ideal for working out on a mini trampoline.  They have enough traction on the soles to ensure you don’t slip, yet they are still soft enough to not cause damage to the trampoline surface over time.  On top of that, these shoes offer good support for those that have weak arches or if you find your feet hurt after a round on the mini trampoline. These shoes are made for jumping, which will allow you to stay stable when bouncing your way to you fitness goals.

Bare Feet!

Even better than tennis shoes are no shoes.  Your bare feet come equipped with a natural non-slip sole.  You will also be able to feel the subtle changes in the surface of the mini trampoline which will allow you to adapt to changes in your bouncing pattern.  Also, jumping on your naked feet will help strengthen your foot muscles that would otherwise not be used while wearing shoes. It really comes down to comfort and preference whether you choose to wear tennis shoes or leave your feet bare.

Vibram FiveFingers

KomodoSport Shoe - Men's Black/Gold 42 by Vibram FiveFingersAn ideal compromise between bare feet and shoes come in the form of Vibram FiveFinger shoes.  They may look funny, but they really do provide the non-slip grip of a shoe with the flexibility and subtle movements that come with barefoot rebounding!
